We are all doing the best we can

Over two years ago I had a conversation with a sleep consultant that rubbed me the wrong way.  I left our conversation feeling like a bad parent and like I was doing something wrong to create this monster of a child.  I probably should have done my research on this consultant before we had a conversation (because since then I have had many positive conversations with others, that left me feeling much better), but at that point sleep was an ongoing battle with my then 3 year and 7 month old, and when this consultant posted a "special one hour phone call" I decided to give it a try.  I am not writing this post to bash that consultant, but more to say: you are doing the best you can. We are all doing the best we can.

I think now about what positives I took away from that call.  Aren't we all just doing the best we can with the resources we have?   When I became a lactation educator, I took an online course with Gini Baker at UCSD extension.  One phrase she would state almost every lecture was: we are doing the best we can with the resources available.

I think about this with my own nutrition practice and counseling.  I find it paramount to meet my clients where they are at.  Parenting is not black and white and neither is feeding.  These days, I am finding this true in so many aspects of life.

What’s my point and why I am writing a blog post without including a feeding tip or advice?  You are the best parent to your child you can be.  You may be feeling bad that your child isn't eating vegetables or that you are a short order cook most nights, but it's okay for now.

Trust the process.

Let’s work together to implement sustainable changes that feel good, and don’t make you feel like you are doing something wrong (because, spoiler alert, you aren’t).  We did not become parents by reading a manual and having it all figured out.

I am here for you, to guide you, to coach you. We are all doing the best we can. Because, we are all in this together.

If feeding is a battle, let me guide you. Schedule a free 15 minute introductory call and we can decide what the next right step is for you to move forward. I can’t wait to connect.
